After Episode 3 ended with Beth and Rip facing a terrifying outbreak among their cattle, the trailer for the next episode suggests that things are only going to get darker. The episode, titled “Start with a Bullet,” comes with a chilling synopsis: “Beth and Rip face a crisis that forces them into extreme action, while Beulah consolidates her power and strengthens her control over the situation.”

That one sentence alone tells us a lot. Beth and Rip are not just dealing with a ranching problem. They are being pushed into a corner.

Episode 3 revealed that the cattle Rip bought at auction may be infected with foot-and-mouth disease. At first, it seemed like a manageable issue, but by the end of the episode, it became clear that the sickness was spreading. For a ranch that Beth and Rip have poured everything into, this could be catastrophic. They spent their money, their hope, and their future trying to build something new. Now that future may be dying right in front of them.

The biggest question is how the outbreak started.

Before the auction, Rip’s cattle appeared healthy. Then he bought the bull that Beulah had wanted, and soon after, disease entered the herd. That detail feels too important to ignore.
